Disguised as a wealthy businessman, Red Army intelligence agent Platais arrives in a city held by the White forces with his companion Miks. Their mission is to reach a railway station and, with the help of partisans, sabotage the tracks. As Platais gathers vital information by befriending Lieutenant Colonel Sviridov, Cielaviņa and Čigāns build an unexpected alliance with a group of homeless people. Through courage, ingenuity and the help of his unlikely allies, Platais sets out to disarm the White officers and complete his dangerous mission.
